Enjoy My Academic Trip In Hong Kong
Everything was a precious treasure for me from 6 September to 12 September. I with my classmates
participated in the framework of the Higher Education Sprout Project English Translation Courses at The
Hang Seng University of Hong Kong; We stayed in a diverse and multicultural environment for quite a long
time and got in touch with different language usage areas, such as rapidly transfer English to Cantonese, or
Cantonese to Putonhua. Overall, I would like to talk about the lessons in HSUHK and some culture shock in
flourishing Hong Kong.
First and foremost, we took classes in arts translation, business & law translation and cross culture
translation, etc. These beneficial lessons were very elaborate and established a strong foundation of EnglishChinese
translation. For instance, the instructor of the cultural translation curriculum discussed the history of
Chinese Translation traced from the Tang Dynasty by using his life experience from Bejing. He said “ When
I stayed in the hostel, the light bulbs were sometimes flashed and sometimes went off. I felt very scared and
hopeless.” (He stayed in the corner room of the level.) After that, he began to chant a spell called Om man I
pad me hum from Buddism. Magically, the light bulbs became normal. For me, it was an impressive story
for me to understand how vital was the translation of cross-culture.
Therefore, the culture shock in Hong Kong was the weather making me unforgettable. When we
visited there, the rain was like using a bucket of water from a water tower to pour on my body. I was not
exaggerating because we came across the typhoon. At that moment, I felt desperate. In addition, some Mass
Transit Rapid even stopped running due to the condition.
Eventually, the academic trip was awesome. Although there was some crisis, we could successfully
solve it. I had to appreciate our foreign languages department inviting me to enjoy this wonderful training
camp. I would keep these memories in my mind eternally
